Jaroslav Drobný

... was born in Prague, in 1921. He left Czechoslovakia in 1949 and travelled as an Egyptian citizen before becoming a citizen of the United Kingdom in 1959; he died in Tooting, south London, in 2001, aged 79.

In 1954 he became the first player with African citizenship to win the Wimbledon Championships. He is still the only such player to do so, apart from Roger Federer, who holds dual Swiss and South African citizenship (but officially represents only Switzerland in sports).
